What I think about these teachers would depend on what age I am/was. As a horny male student or the father of a teenage girl. As a horny male student, emotionally challenged, I wouldn't have considered that the female teacher has emotional issues that would make even a mainly sexual relationship a lot more challenging than our fantasies. It is awfully tiresome waking up everyday with a hardon. Not a problem at 75. I did notice that it is often somewhat aggressive jerks that overcome female caution. My teenage daughter did have a sexual relationship with another student. She told me in the feminine way of having her birth control pills fall out of her purse while we were walking. The boy was ok for a teenage boy so it was ok with me. I was glad she was using birth control. Teen age pregnancy for most girls is a problem. I had my first love relationship in college with a girl/woman who had had an abortion in high school. It had left her with many issues. So many men and women marry the wrong person for them because the sex was good. Sex is still mysterious to me in my 70s.

It is easy to get the impression that teachers and school age kids commonly hook up nowadays, given the frequency with which we see these stories popping up in the media. A generation ago, these stories were considered so rare and lurid that Mary Kay Letourneau became a household name. Now it seems like we see a new story like this every few days, so many that no one even remembers their names any more.

Perhaps, for any number of reasons, this is just another idea our would-be social engineers want to embed in the public consciousness. The mediated reality many have come to depend on is easily manipulated, and knowing that repetition is at the core of propaganda, I grow suspicious when subjects like this start appearing with increasing frequency in reporting. How much of this has always gone on, but was formerly considered too lurid to be a subject for public dissection?

Your HS buddy is right about "Love Boat", but let's just hope they leave nostalgia intact and avoid subjecting us to "Love Boat Redux". Fans of the original can only shudder at what the "modern" version would look like.
