[news photo of Vietnamese general inspecting troops rehearsing for Moscow Victory Day Parade on 5/9/25]

Two weeks ago, a Trumpian asked me if Vietnam was “afraid” of American rice? So tactfully, he insinuated this rice gobbling nation should import mega tons from, I don’t know, Arkansas and Texas? If Elon Musk hasn’t nuked the US Department of Agriculture, this genius should be made its Secretary. He’s no less qualified than Noem, Patel, Bessent, Hegseth and Big Balls.

In 1787, Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter, “The dry rice of Cochinchina has the reputation of being whitest to the eye, best flavored to the taste, and most productive.” Cochinchina was southern Vietnam. To import rice from there would be “a great happiness.” Unlike Trump, Jefferson wasn’t always right about everything. Still, he wasn’t too bad a man, president, architect and thinker. Some may conclude he had a better grasp of English than Trump. Sadly, Jefferson never got to taste Vietnamese rice.
