I have a genius level IQ but find the best people to speak with are reasonably intelligent but with a great BS detector, curiosity, and the courage to acknowledge what they see around them. Bonus points if they can connect dots.
As for people with mega high IQs after speaking with them I am almost always reminded of Orwell's observation that there are some ideas so stupid only an intellectual can believe them.
The minute Orange Man Bad took that ride down on an escalator many of the high IQ men I knew really lost it.
One of the biggest problems with high IQ people is they firmly believe their opinions must be right about anything including things they know nothing about. Their need for acknowledgement that they are smart makes them easy prey for the Jews.
The late Unabomber's manifesto can be (or at least could recently be) read online free-of-charge and in all honesty makes many worthwhile points. The prose is bad but he was, after all, a mathematician, not a writer.
This John`s problem is that he believes himself to be so intelligent.Telling people about one`s superior intelligence at length doesnt seem intelligent at all to me,while begging on the street.
I know about musicians, the ones that brag, suck.I have never heard a good one brag.
I remember a guy who found himself too clever for anybody, started calling himself Psychonaut, wouldnt talk to anybody. He ended up in a nut house.
Or is his schizophrenia the result of his self inflation?Maybe he felt unloved and tried to compensate that way.His unconscious knew all along he`s bullshitting himself, and finally clashed with perceived realities,I`m just guessing.
Oh, you will like this. In the Sputnik scare physicists saw the opportunity to get money for very bright black students. Some stayed in the system but sone like your friend got knocked out by life’s hard knocks, with less support. I can think of 2 in my life right off. 1 squats in a cinderblock structure in the woods north of here, selling kerosene he gets some vet (VN) discount on. Another is the bluesman Ironing Board Sam, who built an aquarium for playing his electric piano in, under water.
Sounds great. MI likes whacky smart men like that. Prefers to pick them up before college. Vietnamese Studies is full of them. Great to hear about the book. Good luck with the launch. Been coughing my lungs out all year. Just now catching up with mail since Xmas.
Linh, did this conversation take place in 2015 (looking at the photo)? Seems like John may have not been that far off on some stuff!
I have read the first three essays in your Kafka book, which I just received--very enjoyable. Right before I read your paragraph on who you thought the Jackals were in "Jackals and Arabs," I had exactly the same thought--it seemed so obvious to me (ha!). More importantly, I've often had the same thought as your regarding being exposed to certain classics too early in life to be capable of getting the most out of them, due to a lack of life experience. I have gone back on occasion to re-read certain books I remember liking back in school or in early adulthood, and the second time through I found many things I had either forgotten or that did not make an impression on me earlier in my life.
John just doesn't fit like most people. It is survival of the fittest in the United States. The fittest being the biggest liars, the most selfish abusers, and the cruelest oppressors.
You are simply an amazing writer . Thank you Linh Dihn

They are really all like that ? Woulda guessed it varies there too

Don't think his schizophrenia has anything to do with his inflated opinion of himself? Einstein IQ notwithstanding

fine read
The guy is soooo intelligent that he is living on the streets and sees nothing wrong? That Government job came with plenty of M K Ultra goodies.

John personifies the adage that you can be intelligent but not clever
John just doesn't fit like most people. It is survival of the fittest in the United States. The fittest being the biggest liars, the most selfish abusers, and the cruelest oppressors.
Amen to that, sir.
It's funny that such a statement is made by someone whose name is almost an anagram of "Darwin" 😊!
John personifies the fact that one can be intellectually (in his case mathematics) brilliant but emotionally (using his language) retarded.
