Funny but timely this nutrition talk. I figured myself healthy but for high blood pressure I associated with my profession. Finally gave in and started taking meds for it. That offended my sense of self so much that I went hardcore carnivore (animal protein, natural fats like butter and cream, and extremely low carbs). In four weeks my blood pressure dropped to 120/80 or less without meds, resting heart rate dropped, and my bouts of rosacea ended. “They” have been trying to make us chronically ill for decades with their BS health standards and shots. Such a coordinated, pervasive, and multi-generational evil is a strong argument for the existence of supernatural evil. Thanks for the essay!

It is amazing how the medical establishment trains us to fear certain foods. A couple of months ago I stopped sugars (carbs) and seed oils in my diet. Even though I've developed a level of skepticism as to what we are advised, initially I expected to get a heart attack within weeks. So far so good with a slight reduction of my circumference .

A blood test soon will show how my triglyceride levels are doing.

I’m with you on margarine—awful stuff. I can even smell it, without the need to taste. I have stayed with butter for as long as I can remember, and refuse to eat margarine. My dad's second wife, determined to improve his diet, normally made him eat margarine. But when they noticed that I wouldn’t eat anything that required buttering when I ate there, they started putting butter out along with the margarine when I came over, delighting my dad, who apparently got a free pass on those nights.

When I was younger and paying little attention to my dietary habits, I practically gargled with Diet Coke for years, thinking that the sugared version would kill me in those quantities. Finally, about 15 years ago, I decided to quit consuming artificial sweeteners entirely, but instead of just abandoning Diet soft drinks, I gave them up entirely. (Beer still seems like a safe bet, though…)

Now I am more deliberate about what I eat. I pay attention to ingredient labels when I am considering buying something new, and it is amazing what I sometimes discover in products I thought of as healthy. For example: most brands of kimchi here in California are actually made in the US, but I recently found one in the store that was actually made in South Korea. I was sure it would be the good stuff, but on the label, I found that instead of cane sugar, they used HFCS! WTF? As an ingredient, it is a bit cheaper than cane sugar, but it is added in such small amounts to kimchi that the savings have to be microscopic, making me wonder what else they cut corners on. Like one of my former managers once said: “If people find dirty tray tables when they board a flight, they might well wonder whether or not the engine maintenance was being done.”

I think it was Mickey Mantle, in the midst of some medical issue or another (liver problems?) who said “If I had known I would live so long, I would have taken better care of myself.” For me, so far so good, but I hope I didn’t wait too long to start doing that myself.

Long before the jewjab, doctors were harming the health of their patients by advocating dreadful nutrition. Eggs, cholesterol, avacados, salt, fat, meat tallow, coconut oil, red meat and butter are bad they said. Canola oil, non fat and grains are good.

Like with everything they advocated around Covid, the reality is the opposite.

If given control of the gulags, I will make sure there is a special place reserved for doctors.

I've come across anecdotal information that "highly processed" (usually) wheat, corn and sugar derived foods such as cookies, cakes, white bread and, yes, margarine are the foods that cause the real damage to the human cardio-vascular system. Not healthy fats.

Apparently manufacturers of highly processed foods knew decades ago that consuming large amount of their foods was deleterious to health and instead of admitting to that they shifted the blame to "excess" fat in the diet.

Although consuming beef steak and hamburger may be healthier than consuming cookies and cakes unfortunately today's agro-industrial beef raising practices no longer produce the same healthy grass-fed beef of older days. For a very informative book on the American diet see Michael Pollen's "The Omnivore's Dilemma."

And not just Americans. I remember when I was still a little boy that they started this campaign saying that margarine was somehow healthier than butter. Even at that age, I thought it strange that bland, weirdly-made margarine could be healthier than delicious natural butter. My family for a while changed butter for margarine (because it was cheaper, too), but turns out my instinct was right. It's margarine what's bad for you, and they are even admitting it. Since then, I have never trusted any "nutrition and health advice" from "experts" and the media. It's all bullshit to sell you something bad. Long live butter.

I stick to only eating foods and beverages that have been consumed for 1000 years. I will give myself 2 meals a week to eat anything I want. The usually suspects then are a fast food burger, pizza or fried chicken. Eating in restaurants is tricky because of all the seed oils, msg and poor quality meat.

The food Americans stuff down their wobbly gullets is called 'goyslop' for a reason.

It's mass-produced cattle feed perfectly calibrated to debilitate American debt-serfs into a state of wide-mouthed complacency, physical dependency, and perpetual sickness in their open-air FoxNews-branded prisons.

They then provide the cure--advertised relentlessly wherever and whenever they swipe or click. I personally cannot wait to see the long-term effects of Wegovy and all the semaglutides on their already failing pancreatic systems.

Goys are cattle and deserve little better than animal feed.

It is odd to me that eating ordinary, natural food is even worth writing about rather than just being the inevitable result of being human. We have strayed so far that it is small wonder most of the world is going down the tube. Although I explored various dietary trends from about the age of eighteen I never made real head way until thirty years later I discovered I cannot eat either wheat products (unless sour dough) or any dairy products without an unhappy effect on my digestive system. That goes some way to explaining why I was unhealthy as a meat eater and a vegetarian, (almost a vegan), for eighteen years. I am not perfect now, but some parts of me are excellent, as the saying goes. Allergies/intolerances are also a possible explanation for your adulthood marred with terrible skin problems and every one is different in this regard. There are ways to explore this but requires you to be in a stable location where you have control over what is available to you to ingest. Your 'health food' meal looks wonderful to me and I will be having something similar at the airport hotel in a few hours, probably not presented as beautifully or as freshly prepared but good enough. Approach the healing of your body with the open mind you apply to so much else. I have gone back to intermittent fasting of at least twelve hours between dinner and lunch (no breakfast) as it works for me, but there are many ways to skin a cat as my father used to say (but hopefully not for your next meal). There is no single solution for our varied bodies and so you will find people who are healed by almost every possible variety of natural, wholesome food. You need to find your own way through careful experimentation and that is not easy in your situation. But I wish you all the best.

I didn't eat much sugar growing up because because Mom had been a dietician. I feel lucky in that regard, but remember a few sugar binges in junior high and high school when the candy machine would "break" and some of us found that a ruler could get most of those metal candy coils moving. We were teenagers acting like raccoons, go figure. I'd go run all of that sugar off at cross country practice and then probably crash later without realizing it. A guy at a health food store told me that sucrose, processed sugar, resembles cocaine more than food in it's chemical composition. Seeing some of the patterns play out in my addictions has been interesting. I call stimulants "electric candy".

Whatever it takes to keep the gears turning and the bodies moving. F' all that, slowing down and taking care has done wonders.

Hi Linh, happy to hear you are feeling a bit better. I disagree that intermittent fasting is related to poverty. I've been on 16 hours fasting / 8 eating window since last September and have had good results. I've lost a bit of weight and don't miss eating breakfast, often eating eggs for lunch. I still enjoy bread and rice, however, meaning that I'm not doing low-carb which I understand is even healthier. This idea that 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day' is not necessarily true. I think I've even convinced my wife to try fasting for health benefits, and we've discussed moving the eating window to 7 am to 3 pm, but it will depend on my work schedule. What you and the other commenters write about the 'western' diet is true, and contributes to a lot of overweight bodies and obesity which is then normalized through cultural conditioning (e.g. 'body positivity') Another culprit is 'seed oils' which one of the commenters mentioned. To avoid these vegetable oils, we need to limit eating at restaurants which use these cheap oils. This means that we need to cook so that we know exactly what kind of oil / butter we consume. It is difficult to cultivate healthy nutritional habits.

I've been trying with intermittent fasting at least once a week -- it should be ideally on Fridays, since I'm a Catholic, but it's been a bit more random. I am not sure it really helps, but it is not that hard. First hours are the hardest. Then, after a while, hunger just seems to disappear (at least for a while). However, 24 hours has been my limit. Usually I can do it for 16-18 hours without problem.

There is a (I think credible) hypothesis that because, prior to refrigeration a reliable, steady source of food was sometimes not available humans were forced to fast from time to time. Now scientific evidence seems to be corroborating that our bodies were meant to go for significant periods of time without food. Controlled fasting, so long as one doesn't induce starvation, seems to be healthy.
