Let us be optimistic. Let us. I won't really be alarmed until all manner of A, B, and C list entities disappear to their hidey-holes in the clockwise hemisphere. Keep your eyes peeled for their conspicuous absence, or for Zelenskyy-style holograms.

Now, a dirty bomb false-flag, on the other hand... and of course, conventional explosives could still pound Guam back into sand. Personally, the idea of the bulk of humanity dropping dead to VAER's is something which grows more attractive with every interaction I have with the outside world. It's time for a reset, were it not for the 6 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏 minorities who will finally inherit the earth for themselves.

The Us empire is hard to leave. It and those who have instrumentalized it tend to follow you wherever you go. But I wish you well with your extrication. I recommend reading Dr. E Michael Jones. He is the only one who is hopeful without being deluded that I know of. And he is just as cancelled by the same forces as you are, so you have a lot in common! May God protect you. (Maybe you don't believe in God, but I do, so I will pray that He protects you.)

Linh, as a stray member of the Vietnamese flock are you able to get citizenship there so you have a permanent base? Is that something you want?

You are still a youngster (I am almost 70). In my 50s and early 60s, a mobile life was fascinating: living in a country for a year then moving on with a lot of travel in between.

However, with all the crazy Covid rules and the homogenization of so much of the planet I started to burn out from the experience.

As I look at the prospect of life late 70s and beyond (well as much beyond as I end up getting), I am not sure that being 80 is a great fit with life on the road.

Maybe 80 and migrating around the planet would keep me young. Maybe not.

What do you see in your future (if we have one) given your no BS look at what is happening with the planet?

How ironic/poetic to end up in Guam on your way out of America...

You thought you were rescued by the Yanks in 75. I wonder what you would call it now, in retrospect?

It would be fun to imagine an alternate-world Linh where you went to Germany instead in 75? So many Viets in Berlin...

In order to make my way through your incomparable glimpses of a world I will never see, I have been going to your photographic blog daily and working my way backwards from the end, therefore visiting towns in China, Poland, Vietnam, Sud Afrika, in a happy jumble of humanity and their images. I got to Vung Tau and found this article with pictures. In Melbourne, Australia there is a plethora of Vietnamese restaurants which seem to be very good although I have nothing to compare them to.

Now I have another lead to follow up: Tarkovsky and I have not even worked myself through the last row of your blog posts. Happy trails, lenh denh.

"Stalker" is a great movie. A bit slow, perhaps, but such iconic scenes (black dog / dream scene). I am not sure what's the relation to the rest of the post, or maybe I'm sleepy.

Incidentally, it is possible that Tarkovsky and others from the crew died earlier than they should, from cancer, due to the chemical exposure during the shooting of "Stalker" somewhere in an abandoned factory in Estonia.

I don't think nuclear war is coming soon, but economic crisis and poverty, and old style civil war? Sure.

Hi Linh,

Two links if I may. Both followed from your still of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker.

I don't know what this means but I will just let it flow until I do.

New rule: I stop reading as soon as I see <Introductory clause>, ....

The pun of sentence structure, this form needs to be used judiciously, if at all.

Hi, Linh! I came back to the story of the Third International, because it seems to me the closest story to what we are living now. It is a Jewish story, like all the most important stories. The smartest person was Karl Radek (Karol Sobelsohn), who called Lenin "a brilliant imbecile." Not bad either was Stalin, who made the wisecrack that a pogrom should be organized inside the Soviet Communist Party: there were too many Jews.

Hi everybody,

Jack's is a great bar. When I left Philly +4 years ago, it was still owned by Mel, a very well-read old Jewish guy with an oil painter for a wife. He was about to sell the bar to some "Asian guy" I never saw. With the neighborhood gone way downhill, Jack's didn't welcome nightshift workers in the morning but pimps, whores, junkies and maybe an old dude or two who couldn't sleep.

I wrote about Jack's, McGlinchey's, Dirty Frank's or Friendly Lounge more than any other Philly bar. Below are links to some photos of Jack's.

With Samantha Melamed of the Philadelphia Inquirer, 5/13/17. Wanting to write about Jack's, she asked me to be her guide. With the neighborhood so deadly, she probably didn't feel safe going there by herself:
