My biggest questions: How did we get here? What the hell is wrong with us?

Tim Curry was divinely entertaining in RHPS, but Meatloaf's retro rock cameo stole the show musically, at least for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNknnVxSnJc

Pink Flamingos otoh was so amateurish and revolting, half the audience had called it quits before the halfway point. Both were billed as Midnight Cult Classics but only Rocky Horror was legit.

When I was 19 I saw TRHPS (1979), and quite frankly didn't get it.

My girlfriend could not understand why I was less than impressed.

I told her that it seems rape is OK if it is artistic expression.

The music wasn't what I would ever listen to.

Camp and kitsh.

I've seen many, many movies over the years, including quite a number that in retrospect I'd say had not honestly been worth watching. I have been told that "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a cult classic, but I must confess that despite several opportunities over the years, I have never seen it. But from your description, it seems to neatly encapsulate the current state of culture in America.

I saw RHPS is the 70s and found it fun. However, I had no idea it was a peak into the future of America circa 2023.

When I re-watch a TV show from the 70s I can now see how they (the tribe) were paving the way for the acceptance of the degeneracy we have now.

I have never watched "The Rocky Horror Show", even if it seems to prefigure many future Hollywood productions and much of current pop culture, but I had the misfortune of watching Waters' "Pink Flamingos." Indeed an "unforgettable film", although for all the wrong reasons.
