[Vietnamese owned cafe on Khemarak Phoumin Ave in Phnom Penh on 10/30/23] After walking a mile in the dark, I’ve just arrived at A Den Café. It’s 5:29AM. I’m sharing a table with a man in a baseball cap and his skinny grandson. The boy’s reddish hair comes from spending too much time in the sun. His name is not Liam, Cillian or Oisin, I don’t think. Watching animation on a phone, he’s eating Chinese fried dough, youtiao, dipped in his granddad’s coffee.
So much hilarity, hard-earned wisdom, bitter truth, and dark humour packed into one little substack essay (and topped with a typically excellent set of slice-of-life photos). It's easy to see why Linh Dinh has been labelled as beyond the pale. Just about every sentence represents some instance of high thoughtcrime in the (five) eyes of the super-violent, collapsing Western imperium.

Thank you for your always erudite, wit-filled exposes/articles/columns, Mr. Dinh. I learn something, usually many things, every time I read one.
I was first introduced to you many years ago as a writer for Counterpunch. At that time you were covering the decline of the American working-class (or at least that's the portion of your writing that drew my interest and that I focused on at that time.)
You bring the same sharp eye and intellect as you travel to other parts of the world.
I am hoping to spend -- at the least -- this winter in the Philippines. And I'll try to stay longer if the immigration authorities will allow it. I am too old to endure the New England winters anymore. And -- perhaps most importantly -- I am told the people of the Philippines are kind to old and disheveled strangers like me.
Just two days ago, on Sunday, I got called down by a stranger (whom I had never met, never knew and had never had any previous dealings with) who razed me and mocked me as I was minding my own business and crossing the street. This in the city I was born in 66 years ago but had been away from for the 37 years I had been employed in California. Why this chap felt the need to mock and deride a stranger is beyond me. Only in my home town; and only in America. Where else in the world do people act like this? Nowhere I would venture. Outside of The States most adults would be ashamed to be such witless morons. Here it just goes with the territory.
The Jews are just doing their thing. The same things they have always done. The saddest part is how they are abetted by the evangelicals. Most Christian churches are eager to implement anything the Jews dream up because they let the Jews, not the Bible, teach them right and wrong. However, the evangelicals take it to another level. They believe Jesus commanded them to love the Jews and they must blindly support Israel so that the Rapture can occur. Useful idiots indeed
In my limited dealings with evangelical Christians I've noticed one overarching theme: Every things revolves around "what's in it for me?"
Evangelicals don't really care about Jews; it's just part of their prophecies that Jews need to control Israel so the evangelicals can gain the advantage of being "raptured" to heaven when the time is right.
The evangelicals I knew love (a sort of psuedo-love derived from fear and self-interest) and worshiped Christ because they believed if they neglected to do so they would spend eternity in hell. These folks, as far as I knew, couldn't tell you what the Sermon on the Mount or the Beatitudes were because it didn't matter and they didn't care about "doing unto others (as would be done unto you)." What they cared about was their perception of saving their own souls from damnation. Nothing else.

Compare that to the Jehovah's Witnesses. They have a limited number of spots in heaven so they try harder and compete fiercely as to who among them gets to avoid eternal damnation in hell.
