[Kracheh, Cambodia on 10/8/23] The young man I met in Phum Cafe turned out to be a cop. Seeing him just now, I babbled about my recent visit to villages upriver. Knowing he couldn’t understand everything, I made sure to use simpler words, but this didn’t help much. Since he could only squeak out a few syllables in reply, I finally shut myself up. Finally, this cop could enjoy his morning cappuccino in peace.
here in Sonoma county California, sarcastically called 'Woketown' by some, the Trump hate remains intense, always eliciting rage when his name comes up - but - otherwise, the locals have become very subdued lately - the Ukraine flags are literally lying bedraggled on the banks of the Russian River, and my jewish neighbors have been vociferously condemning IsraHell for its crimes against humanity - something we goyim are afraid to bring up - because as Linh noted, any discussion of significance is Taboo in usausa - it seems to me the smug liberals are getting nervous..........

Maybe it's time for you to come back to the U.S. and spend some time relaxing. Decompress. Travel is hard. And, for all your travails here, it is your home. For better or for worse.

yesterday i had a conversation with my oncologist - my chronic lymphocytic leukemia right now appears to have a "doubling time" of three years or so - we will wait until it kicks into higher gear - like a doubling time of under a year - before starting the chemo - and who knows if that will be necessary, as other things are going on that may take me out first - my recent ct scan noted evidence of arterial atherosclerosis
i read a passage from ben franklin's autobiography that has stayed with me - he said he made a point of not becoming a connoisseur of fine food or drink - rather, he ate what was set before him without comparing it with an often-unattainable ideal - this promoted contentment with his circumstances and left him time and energy to contemplate other concerns
