Very nice piece. I've often noticed that the act of traveling can put me in a different frame of mind; less inclined to focus on life's annoyances, experiencing or looking forward to breaking life's routine or dwelling on whatever I've most recently chosen to be aggravated about. I sense this may be true with you as well--the tone of your piece today is shifted a bit from some of your recent offerings.
the broken/ok shirt reminds me of the concept of the 'wounded healer' - those who are aware of how they are broken [care about/know how to help] fellow sufferers
jon kabat-zinn found of buddhist-influenced 'mindfulness based stress reduction' - mbsr - says 'as long as you are breathing there is more right with you than wrong with you'
i hope you get to see the river dolphins, said to be the greatest tourist attraction there
at one of the daily mail stories about the killing in israel/palestine i put a quote from folksinger fred neil's song 'dolphins'
ORIENTA - a good position indeed. What a beautiful word. There's apparently restaurants and towns named Orienta, a type font, and an old wooden steam yacht. Type "translate orienta" into Google and you discover it's esperanto for Oriental. But today I'm going with a form of the spanish verb orientar, to orient, guide, aim, so you can say "a good position in life" and it sort of makes sense.
Your journey to Cambodia was well timed. It diverted you from the horror of our greatest ally being "attacked" for petty reasons like their land being stolen and repression. (Sure worked out conveniently for Bibi). Sometimes I think no one remembers the holocaust.
Enjoy Cambodia. I have only been to Phnom Penh. Loved it but that was 11 years ago. I find Vietnamese streets easy to cross. The scooters would weave around pedestrians like water around rocks. In Phnom Penh, yow! Crossing the street at that time reminded of crossing an American freeway.
Nice post, but how is Pol Pot the fault of "Jewish thinking"? Unless it means quite literally reading the works of Karl Marx. But from that perspective, a lot of Europeans are also into "Jewish thinking", and Muslims too, although in a different way.
P.S. Apparently some Thai workers were killed by Hamas. It seems there's 30,000 of them in Israel, I wonder if there are Cambodians too.
Calling out Pol Pot only because the Collective waste will distort everything to make everyone else seem more horrible than the reality.
What's Israel planning for Gaza? Level it, and here you are whining about another genocide from 50 years ago.
So, it's OK for Israel to go full on siege to a imprisoned population, more shooting at fish in a a barrel. However, Hezbollah, Syria, Iran has something to say about that.
Huh? Are you talking to me or Linh? Anyway, if Hamas/Palestinians didn't want to be "shot like fish at a barrel", perhaps they shouldn't have killed random young people in a festival and even a few Thai workers? Unless the event was partly staged, which is a possibility. Either way, I think it's more about Iran than Gaza, but we will see.
Second, I don't know what's your morality, but in mine, it doesn't feel right to kill young people at a party, or random Thai workers, no matter what atrocity was committed upon you by somebody else. But then again, I'm a Christian, or at least try to be. I am neither Muslim nor Jew so I have no side on that, I just wish they'd find an agreement and stopped killing each other. I also wish the Jews would stop importing Muslims into Europe, but that's a somewhat separate story.

"i'm not the one to tell the world
how to get along
i only know that peace will enter
when all hate is gone
i've been searching for the dolphins in the sea
and sometimes i wonder if you ever think of me"
may you be well and find friendly faces, linh

I'll ignore the twat from now on.
If I could get away to a small village in Alentejo where an old man with a mule sells lemon
and all dogs know you

Such irony!

This is the real meaning of "R2P".

It's NOT about Iran.
And, remember who owns the media.
Your hubris is so noxious.
What hubris?
First of all, I wasn't talking to you.
Second, I don't know what's your morality, but in mine, it doesn't feel right to kill young people at a party, or random Thai workers, no matter what atrocity was committed upon you by somebody else. Third, did I say I wasn't talking to you?
