Another interesting column, Linh - this time for the non fiction. Those architectural monstrosities are an affront to the soul and it's hard to look past the writing of James Kunstler (who used to run a piece called 'Eyesores of the week' in his blog:
"The argument has been made that Americans are not merely indifferent to the appearance of their towns, but are positively devoted to ugliness. This specimen has it all: the disruption of the original design, the revolting cladding material and color choice, the dedicated stretch of blank wall fronting the street, the utter lack of architectural dignity. This is a building perfectly suited to a culture of mental defectives. There is not enough Prozac in the world to cure this."
Obviously it's not only Americans but the 'starchitects' of the western world as a whole that spit in the face of their own societies by producing such execrable monuments to their own and their patrons' flatulent egos.
That two or three subsequent generations will be afflicted by such eye bleach inducing tackiness shows the contempt in which they hold wider society and, in direct proportion, how contemptible they are themselves.
The first time I heard of Frank Ghery Goldberg was back in Chicago when the Millenium Park project was completed. That's one hideous structure I said, but of course my liberal friends were all gaga over it. Looking back, are all commie liberals that fucking stupid? Of course the answer is yes. And then there's the Millennium Park Bean, another monstrosity created by another Jew. Now that I think about it, I'm guessing 90 percent of the public sculptures in Chicago were created by Jews, if not 100 percent. It makes me want to vomit thinking how much Jewish fuckery I tolerated while living there.
p.s. what kind of books did Hitler burn anyway? 🥸🥸🥸
Otto Dix, my favorite Weimar artist, got included in the Nazi's Degenerate Art show. But what he paints are satires of degeneracy. He's mocking the German bourgeoise for their decadence not romanticizing or normalizing it. Surely the Nazis realized that. You need to expose the the sin before you can heal it.
Was it because he didn't explicitly indict the Jew as the predator in the debauchery and so the cause might be misconstrued as only the venality of the German people? Or was it simply strict conservative aesthetics that didn't want any ugliness shown? Art should only strive for beauty, whether distant or familiar.
I think Bosch is an excellent historical example of a first rate visionary satirist. Grotesquerie in content seems appropriate to me when a culture is debased, in need of reform and critique. If the new reformers don't appreciate your allied effort, they're too narrow-minded and you may be in trouble. No good deed goes unpunished.
I can't find much to add to your columns, or even give much of a response. My jaw falls and I stare into space for a few minutes. Mull it over through the day. Like some beautiful women just leave silence in their wake. Dudes can't even come up with a catcall.
"That any institute of higher learning would hire a college drop out like me to teach anything proves how degraded our education has become!" Groucho would be proud ...

Gehry's building in Las Vegas seems appropriate. It does get rather warm there.
Perhaps the building of these pleasing to the eye
Monuments and buildings, cathederals etc. were
Done at those times after the synagogists had been
Expelled from the communities and states for their
Wicked ways and now the people had more wealth
To express the joy of life through artistic endeavour
In their surroundings instead of that wealth being stolen.
